Very simple. Ipv4 AND ipv6 records with floating ip's
Last days there was an issue with networking hardware in FRA-1 and my droplet lost network connectivity. I was able to take a snapshot and recreate it at full working capacity before the digitalocean team completed the emergency migration procedure.
In order to quickly switch traffic between the old, broken droplet and the new recreated one, I was able to use the IPv4 floating IP and it was great. However, IPv6 traffic had to have it's IP switched through DNS and some of the traffic still went to the old IP because of this.
It would be great, for such situations, to have floating IPv6.
Some other VPS providers had already implemented that feature. Don't fall behind =)
Second this. The floating IPs feature is super useful.Remember: IPv6 support is not longer optional. Not providing IPv6 support can be seen as a direct violation of RFC 6540.
This idea is even duplicated at https://ideas.digitalocean.com/ideas/DO-I-2954 . It is something we really need, a floating ipv6. Networks that do support ipv6 will use the ipv6 ip address and then we want that to be a floating one we can attach to multiple Droplets. Now it seems you need to work with a load balancer if you want to change Droplets around. Why not a floating ipv6?
This would be incredibly handy and make things much easier for me. Would love to see this!
I would hope that the price for a floating ipv6 adress would be 0 or half of the price of a ipv4 adress
(I'm talking about an ip adress that's not linked to a droplet)
Floating IPv6, as requested by the community now for seven months, is a baseline requirement to even begin considering Digital Ocean seriously :(
Was looking forward to setting up a floating ipv6.
I was surprised this wasn't an option already...
We can only hope for this to be on the road map.
An account+region specific IPv6 /64 that would be shared across all the droplets in one region/zone would be even more interesting.
Give me that and the ability to give more than one floating IP address to a machine, and i'll use the IPv6 network for a management network between machines and be able to return the non-floating IPv4s.
This turned out to be a very useful configuration in our current physical setup (only a few nginx loadbalancers exposed) but I can see why it would be much more difficult to replicate that on scale - other cloud platforms aren't much more flexible than DO in this regard, if they provide IPv6 to compute nodes at all...
We need to be reachable via v4 and v6. A floating IPv4 address only is not an option for us. We hope DigitalOcean soon offers floating IPv6 addresses, too. It really is a nice feature!!!
We are going to have to move to AWS if this isn't added...
voting too for floating IPv6 address
Needed for public APIs in iOS apps!
We need this for our applications as well
definitely something I am missing.. I've switched to IPv6 long time ago and would like to use the floating IP solution on IPv6 too!
Would love this feature
Very critical for us to have IPv6 support, please add soon!
Is there a roadmap somewhere to see how close DO is to implementing IPv6 floating IPs?
