I want my visitor to see a customised message that i'm working on server and website in down for a scheduled maintenance. (for ex:while backing up server img etc..)
One way to do this would be to use a floating IP, and repoint it to a secondary droplet that's hosting a static page indicating the server is down
Whenever I do server maintenance, I'm never down for more than about 60-90 seconds, (I don't do offline backups, however - everything I do is live/online minus reboots for new kernels)
How long are you normally down when you're doing maintenance?
You could create another droplet to host the pages while you are completing the maintenance.
You won't be notified about changes to this idea.
