Well be very nice to have russia data-center.
@Liyanage That wouldn't work as well. You may as well use a western european location. A place like Volgograd in Russia would be close to Central Asia, the caucus region, eastern europe and some of the middle east
Please! This would be very useful, there are nearly no locations in this region of the world
There are almost no locations for easern europe or central asia.
Sorry if it is inappropriate here, but I'd like to respond to @System Architect's comment. Everything he wrote is almost true, but there is russian classic proverb: "However strict Russia's laws may be, their full power is reduced due to a lack or regular enforcement". There is big IT crowd in russia and they are absolutely normal progressive european people and they want to use cool services like DO or AWS etc. and also want to provide better ping for their fellow countrymen ;-)
PS: And of cource, net neutrality is still relevant.
I like it too, but it will less likely to happen due to US sanctions against Russia. So I think it's better to make a datacenter somewhere in eastern europe like poland to cover the whole eastern europe. Poland is somewhere like India , an IT hub. so I think Poland is much more better.
Against this suggestion. Russian Federation is a country of Aggression against whole Democratic World. The country is an occupier who kills both citizens of foreign countries and his own. And all this is based on very powerful propaganda. With war propaganda, there is no place for freedom of speech and democracy. Totalitarianism, slavery, and the tragedy of all mankind.
Around 6 million sites blocked at Russia. They spy by different countries, they affect election process of USA, they hack Ukraine government sites and infrastructure projects (nuclear energy power).
They do massive propaganda how they will destroy the whole world via Nuclear Bombs. They do propaganda that everyone except Russian government are enemies. They jail boys to prison for playing Pokemon-GO in Church. Their economy totally broken and the whole collaple will begin in 2018.
In 2018 will be applied most epic law in the human history called "Yarovaya Law", about this please read here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yarovaya_Law
About the law in few phrases:
- all providers MUST store for 3 years ANY data (video, chats, text, graphical, etc (ALL)) content what do user in Russia at provider HDD storage.
- FSB (it's like FBI in USA) got request from Putin to find a ways unencrypt all data, and FSB confirms that they found it, and all providers will be forced to unencrypt all data in Russia in 2018
- All data of all clients (not only russians) must be stored in Russia on russian servers
- A very bad security and judicial system, which allows any ordinary policeman to block any resource in the network for citizens of the Russian Federation, as well as to withdraw equipment at his own wish.
- Already blocked several social networks, and messagers in the country (linkendin for example, zello chat, etc)
- They thread telegram and will block telegram
DEAR DIGITAL OCEAN, ARE YOU SURE YOU WISH TO OPEN DATACENTER IN THIS VERY UNSTABLE THIRD REICH REGION IN 2017 or 2018?
All of my words have proofs. And each word you can check by yourself in google. All news available for everyone.
I'd love this!
Please, open your perfect datacenters in Russia!
voted ! want russian server ! :)
But sadly, Ethan Fox - Platform Support Specialist, just told me 3 minutes ago that they have zero plans to expand to Russia at this time. :/
I don't think that, digitalocean will make new datacenter in Russia. first guys you have to ask your government to change something and then to digitalocean, these guys have great business and very good company and I don't think they want to have problems, they'll make more money making new datacenters into other countries than Russia, because government will start forcing them to give access to data centers and so on :) so do not waste your votes to this )) this will never happen.
Come on, DigitalO, just DO it )
To keep our data inside of our country.
DO did launch a DC in India, a country where bandwidth and infrastructure costs are higher than anywhere else. I feel very confused why don't they come to Russia yet. However, since 2013, there are lots of decent cloud providers here to compete with so probably just a matter of business.
+1 better pings with familiar good service DigitalOcean provides would be great!
This would be really great! +1 on having a data center in Russia. Having it up north would also save on cooling costs ;)
really need server in Russia!
I vote for the data center in Russia. And not in the central part of it, but in the Far East or Siberia. Similar datacenters is not there, not to mention about the level of technical support.
No way. They are inventing their 'internet'
In Russian Federation there is a federal law №152. According to it all personal data of russian citizens must be stored on servers located in Russia. There are plenty of companies that offer such service in Russia, but none of them is such good as DO. It's a long term business opportunity for you, guys.
Agree, as I know after 1st of september 2015 I will need to change the hosting to Russia because of the new Law.
+3 for this.
Please, do this!
+! I support this.
Just be aware to use local ISPs. Rostelecom or Transtelecom with TeliaSonera peering :)
Why not gathering feedback? :)
A recent law in Russia states that starting from Jan, 1st 2015 all companies have to store personal data of Russian citizens only on Russian territory. This means that many companies (including myself) have to switch from DigitalOcean to Russian hosting providers. The problem is that cloud providers in Russia are not that good.
DigitalOcean, you can check how many customers you have from Russia, and if the amount if enough, please consider creating a datacenter located in Russia.
Russian devs need DO!
+3 votes )
It's better to make DC somewhere in Ukraine because of weird new russian internet policies.
would be extremely delicious...
It will be very useful!
It would be awesome!
it will be great!
This is great idea! ;)
Yeah, really need.
we need it
We need that! +
This is an excellent idea! This will give alternative to our snickering hosters!
Yes! It will be nice!
It will be nice!
It will be so cool!
Could you describe to us the limitations?
I fully support the initiative.
Quality services praised by many friends.
Ping is also not bad.
But even less would be better.
New point within Russia, or at least closer to its borders, will allow you to bypass many of its competitors.
I emphasize, not necessarily to build data center in our country, if you have any limitations.
If you can do it elsewhere and Ping will be less, then you will succeed.
I think it's useless idea, because Russian Federation has many law restrictions in the internet.
Are there any plans to build a data center in Russia?
Yeah, place your cloud at CROC TIER III FACILITY with 99.982% availability )) Ping time to Amsterdam is pretty promising? but, damn, you can improve it! Russia calling! )
It will the best! If DigitlOcean build data center in Russia - i will totally move all my servers on DigitalOcean! Really must have :)
At least, PoP for the Spaces CDN would be nice
No! No! -100000000! In no case!
In Moscow we have realy great Tier-3 datacenters for example Dataspace.ru, Dataline (dtln.ru) but they are not able to provide such great services as you guys are.
Thank you for your services. They are really cool. Recently webmasters in Russia faced problems with renting hosting services abroad. Our government telecom regulator Roskomnadzor (Russian supervisor over communication services) banned several IP pools of abroad hosters. Several times I have tried to rent your VPS in Germany (closest country to Moscow) but they were not available from Russia without VPN. When you are webmaster it's serious problem when your site available for your users only via VPN. In Moscow we have realy great Tier-3 datacenters for example Dataspace.ru, Dataline (dtln.ru) but they are not able to provide such great services as you guys are. Could you please add Moscow in datacenter region option in create droplet request form?
Add Taiwan and Japan datacenter
I like too, I think you will get a lot of new clients for DigitalOcean platform
You won't be notified about changes to this idea.
