It would be great if we could use our own /24 subnets with droplets. It will solve "1 IP" problem and will give opportunity of building own cloud farms.
In our use cases using own public IP subnet can be limited to a region or even a single data-centre. This can be done by using regular IP routing with a minimum of /24 for BGP advertisment. Then you can decide yourself per droplet: give a choice between own IP adderes and applying limitations to location versus total freedom of droplets/VM's using floating IP addresses from Digital ocean’s IP space.
Unfortunately at this time it isn't possible to this.
There's already another thread (w/more votes!) on the same topic. You'd be better off consolidating your votes.
Unfortunately this would require vlans which will eventually create a heavy tax on networking gear as it expands to thousands of customers and the same with /24s which would create a large amount of additional arp cache.
So this is limited.
We are working on rolling out private networking and that will be available first in the new NY2 datacenter, and we'll take it from there.
If you're refering to a private /24 address space, then I would have to agree with Mr. Uretsky. Unfortunately, creating vlans which span multiple devices is incredibly taxing on routers for networks of this size and expansion rate. It seems as they are working hard on this feature. However, if you are refering to a public /24 block of IPv4 addresses, I've yet to see a host lease more than a couple IPs to me, let alone 254 of them. If you are not aware, there is an ever increasing shortage of IPv4 addresses as this was a limit by design (hence IPv6 was born). If a host allows you to add one or two more public IP addresses, awesome! If not, then you must cope with it as best you can. It all amounts to how many total public IP addresses the host has on hand to dish out.
