Asia Region Datacenter

DigitalOcean is so popular in Hostloc.com, a famous Chinese host talking forum. So more and more Chinese buy your vps these days. Not only can new asian datacenters bring you more money, but also Chinese can get high speed experience. As the Hostloc.com' webmaster, i suggest you set up new asian datacenters like Hong Kong and Japan. Thanks!

    Admin response

Hey guys, We've launched our first POP in Asia in Singapore. We're also actively working on establishing more peering relationships in the area as we've quickly learned that routing in the Asia Pacific region is a bit different than in the US or EU. We've made significant headway in bringing on more peering in the last two weeks after our launch and we're also bringing on new connectivity providers to improve latency for customers around the region including Korea, India, China, Japan, Thailand and Australia. We are very excited to have extended our global footprint and we selected Singapore as a great central location for Asia that also has very business friendly logistics. Thanks!

Singapore is only good for South East Asia,

Hong Kong Japan would serve the northern Asia and Greater China area

Hong kong is better for Asia country than Singapore. Im waiting for Hong Kong datacenter otherwise, i will move to different company hosting.

Google Hong Kong is live by the way. They do less than 6 month

    Thanks for the kind words.

We are planning to expand to Asia.

Initially we want to cover East Coast (US), West Coast (US), Europe, and Asia.

We're half way there and hope to have Asia and the West Coast online before the end of the year.

There are not a lot of great Colo facilities in and around Asia so we are waiting on updates from some larger Colo providers about new datacenter facilities that they are planning to open in 2013.

Once we have that information we'll be able to have more concrete estimates on when those new facilities will be available as regions inside of DigitalOcean.

Uploading/downloading speed is great from Asia (Taiwan), up to few megabytes per second! But the ping is way too high, from 225ms to 335ms.

I would also be very interested in this, in particular Japan.

Agreed, we have a lot of customers in Singapore already and we're definitely looking into possible locations in the Area and Singapore is high on that list. =]

APAC Datacenter is great. But where? Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo or all of above?

Quite disappointing to see that you plan Asia during the year end. But if you look closely, this is the place where you will get the majority of customers.

Will you update here when you have setup the DC?

We will be providing updates here when we move forward with plans for an Asian DC but right now most likely our next new DC will be Brazil which we are currently investigating.

Opening up a new DC takes quite a bit of work and unfortunately when we work with other international countries the requirements are entirely different so the process is much more involved than opening up a DC in say the US.

    Thanks
