Give option to purchase VPS for long term like months, years like linode does.
Please make this happen.
I agree with this. If I plan on having an instance running 24/7 for 3, 6, 12 months, let me pay the (discounted!) price for it running 24/7 for those 3, 6, 12 months. It would ostensibly *simplify* things for DO, because they know they have a commitment to run that instance for that duration and can allocate that in advance.
Basically, it should be analogous to AW$ reserved instances -- commit and pay up front, get a discount.
I would totally sign up if this was available...
Why is this not implemented yet? Just let us add credit to our account like you do with PayPal, but use a credit card instead. We can't and won't use PayPal. In my case, I have to do a purchase order request every single month for this, then turn in the receipt to our accounting department every month, all for a tiny $10 purchase. It creates a bunch of unnecessary overhead, and it makes this service more expensive than it really is. I'm afraid we will have to take our business elsewhere if this can't or won't be done.
great idea if user can pay per 6 month, 1 or 2 years
I like this idea as it makes payment using project fund that are based on claims easier.
This idea was first shared in 2013, and you're still gathering feedback on whether to implement this?
What are you guys smoking?
At the beginning of the year, one deposit, say 500$ or 1,000$, then he/she can go hide in a cave for the rest of the year, knowing I'm on a tier within my deposited budget.
This is too 'common-sensy' you don't even need to gather feedback. It is not as if the long-term payment will replace the monthly, but just an option for those who live in caves and volcanoes!
You guys disappoint in ways that's ridiculous. Why make something so trivial as this a pain in the a$$
Would move to Digital Ocean if this were put in place. Providers like pair.com offer it automatically. Thank you.
My company would love to move our website to digitalocean, but monthly recurring fees are frowned upon. We won't be able to make the move until yearly payment is possible.
Definitely, please! I don't even care about the discount, just the monthly process and fees are not ideal, nor typical. Thanks!
Why not discount for yearly / bulk payment?
Atlassian does that for JIRA and other products.
Linode does that.
Does this option exist?
put $60 into the account and you have 1 year of $5 droplet
Any news about this topic ? It would be great to have this feature
I would also love this. As a new user this is the only thing that makes me hesitant so far. I would LOVE the following plan: 2 x 512MB servers for $100 / year. You would have a customer for life.
Monthly billing is big overhead for our company, mainly because of VAT. Possibility to pay for whole year in advance would be nice.
That´s the only reason I´m not yet in.
I would like to be able to add credit to my account for at least a few months at a time. As of right now you can do this through PayPal however I don't have a conventional credit/debit card. I have a Google Wallet card... And PayPal declines it.
Even if you could add a Google Wallet payment method that would be great; but even better would be accepting pre-pay from any card.
This is a reason, I am away from digital ocean.
The only thing that keeps me away from Digital Ocean VPS is the monthly based payment method. My project account manager only allows me to purchase VPS if they have annual plans. Since they don't use PayPal, they want to generate one invoice per year.
Hope you enable annual payment plans very soon.
You have fixed rate monthly plans but caring each month's credit statement is panic. Many of us can seriously consider 1, 2, 3 or 5 years plan with good discounts for paying in advance.
Further, you have our credit card already enrolled so you can bill that extra monthly expense separately.
We are looking for annual billing as we offer cloud apps to our customers, they are billed annually. Subscribing to an annual plan with DigitalOcean will help us lock the pricing - which will also facilitate our accounting colleagues (instead of processing monthly expenses).
"We've discussed implementing this but when the platform runs as a cloud where you are billed for the hours that you have the virtual server spun up"
I thought you are charged for the time a droplet exists for, regardless of it being powered on or not?
Would also like to see a yearly/annual billing option with some discount as enticement.
There's another thread with the same request, that has garnered a lot more votes. You should consolidate your votes over there: http://digitalocean.uservoice.com/forums/136585-digital-ocean/suggestions/3683058-purchase-long-term-vps-like-for-months-years
@keboqi : That is what i had in mind, or I did post it in some other suggestion as well. Any way Love the idea, Pre-Paid and Get a discount. Those Money can not be taken out.
@keboqi: that would works.
Because our virtual servers are not pre-paid and are billed at the hourly rate this feature request actually requires quite a bit of code tracking to ensure that the pre-paid amount is associated with a particular droplet.
its easy, use this rule, prepay credits, pay $100 to your account you get $120, pay $1000 you get $1300, you can use it for services of DO, but you can't take the money back. It doesn't affect your billed by hour rule, and customers can still get benefits of "long term" purchase.
+1 for Michael's (2) comment :)
Any update on this feature?
Looking forward for it.
It builds good loyal customers and also customers gets benefit too with some discounts!
Linode does this!
Two possible ways I could see this working that might be conceptually straightforward:
1) Provide a discount when a certain amount of service is purchased, for example, $60 of credit for $50.
2) Sell instance reservations like Amazon that include greatly reduced hourly prices with up-front commitment.
Otherwise, I think the vast majority of DO customers are probably running their servers 24/7 and would be well served by a simple pro-rating system where their hourly price is simply reduced for a given number of hours after they pay for them up-front.
We've discussed implementing this but when the platform runs as a cloud where you are billed for the hours that you have the virtual server spun up, the logic behind a yearly plan is a bit more complex, so while we still have a few large items that we are working on this one is on the back burner for a while.
and some discount to go with long term commitment!
Lol, you know you have a good business when customers beg to be tied down for a year.
Awesome, looking forward to it.
We are looking into providing an annual based billing for a virtual server with a discount.
You won't be notified about changes to this idea.
