One thing i love about Linode and Rackspace is that i can always quickly check my server stats from my mobile phone. I would love to have an app that shows me (in descending order of importance):
* List of Droplets with all meta info (name, image, size, IP address, Running or not ...)
* Buttons for:
* Reboot
* Resize
* Snapshot
* Backup
* Create from scratch/ from image
* Bandwidth usage for the current month
* Charges for current month / account balance
* Digital Ocean stats (is everything in the network ok?)
DigitalOcean Swimmer by Yassir is extremely awesome. Just use that. 👌🏻

We put together a preliminary version using SMS instead of a full app, allowing users to reboot and resize their droplets from their phone.
It's in beta mode and we haven't launched it publicly, but we will most likely release that first, so users can reboot their droplets remotely if they happen to be alerted that there's an issue and they don't have an internet connection handy.

YES. ...and ANDROID. I'm an Android person. :o)
- Is the SMS part ready for testing? I got free messaging plan. :p

Android too, please (and WinMo for that matter, if possible)... not everyone loves Apple ;)

I would most probably prefer have everything exposed via the API and community could do iPhone and Android apps. Maybe am I a dreamer? ;)

That would be an awesome show of support and if someone wants to take that project on and needs any help let us know, we'll be more than happy to help.
The API is at digitalocean.com/api and we put pretty much everything you can do in there.
Thanks,
Moisey

I think stats are really needed to make that kind of app useful. Will you provide a stat API? If yes, any ETA on that?

Stats are in development and yes we will be exposing them via API when they are complete.

I would like to hear opinions on why would a native app be needed here if a stripped (or not) web mobile admin would be available? I was thinking about that and cross-platform development too...I worked with Titanium Mobile last year, but I found it had problems (memory leaks, hard to keep up with new OS version). Anyone have something to suggest? If there is no such solutions I think Rubymotion might be useful as I am Ruby dev. The major downside of Rubymotion is the licensing fees just to try to make a proof of concept.
Thoughts, ideas? Would a web based mobile app would do for most needs?

We've played around with a Twilio integration and DigitalOcean 1.0 that allowed SMS based controls of running droplets, but that would lack a few features that a native phone app would provide (trending, analytics).
A mobile version could work very well and would probably reduce time to develop and also be cross-platform compatible.
Interesting thoughts.

SMS seems a bit basic for anything besides, well, basic. I think. Not sure if I would use that personally (my 2 cents).
A web based mobile admin would be just fine for me. That could start with only a few features built into a, say, jQuery Mobile version of current admin. Something simple at first. That might not add a that big overhead at first, but if people starts to ask all features for mobile, that might add an non-negligible overhead at some point in time.
I thought I could work on that, but might not be ideal for authorizations. Having auth for that web based mobile app that would store people DO auth is not the best solution, I personally wouldn't use that if it didn't came from DO or myself, I think. Servers are too important. Maybe am I paranoid? ;)

We're paranoid on security here as well. I think we wont have the bandwidth for the mobile website for a bit of a time but if someone wants to tackle and it and open source we could use that as a framework to then build on top of and take care of the security implementation.
All good suggestions =]

An android app and an iphone app are on the roadmap and will be in production closer to 2012 Q4 when we hope to have the initial first betas released for users to test.
Thanks

I would be interested in beta testing the Android app.

How about expose an API first and let the community write an app

Already done at:

Would love to see customers engage the API and build some cool tools like an Android phone app, that would be pretty sweet. =]

There's an Android app available now http://basinapp.com

Josh was awesome enough to put one together around the API =]

One of our customers created an android app off of the API:

We'll be eventually putting something together for mobile but no ETA yet.
