Allow users to upload ISO's of Linux installations they would like to use. For instance, I was hoping to install Slackware 14; if users could upload their own ISOs you wouldn't have to keep adding distros as they wanted them.
HI everyone, this feature was released on September 25, 2018.
can't I upload .iso cd and install it as on empty hardware

I was surprised to get e-mail about this feature. I needed it back then... I logged in to check... yep, no droplets. 8-(
Would have a dozen or more instances if this feature had been available.
Also, the dates associated with posts on this subject are messed up, because I'm SURE I didn't post on it September 11th of this year. My need was at LEAST a year ago, if not two.

Boa ideia.

Come on, guys, even Amazon web services has this feature (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/AMIs.html). Custom ISOs, or even better yet, custom VPSs (we pick from your list of plans, then we customize what OS it has, or we can upload our own VHDs). This really isn't that difficult and you guys are practically the only VPS provider that doesn't support this feature.

Hi,
We are developing this feature and have done some limited beta testing of it.
We will be releasing it in the future, most likely around Q1 2013.

Cool, this will be useful. I presuming you guys will only limit the ammount of support this custom distro will get but it still be useful if i can upload my own custom linux

We've looked into allow customers to upload any Linux ISO and creating a virtual server from that, however that feature is still in a very early alpha stage, not yet sure if it will make it to beta and eventually production.

We use a feature like this internally to add new Linux distros but it is still in a very early alpha stage so it is not yet ready to be opened up for customer use.

Indeed, I would be interested in this.

This is crucial for me. What I want to be able to do is to be allocated 20 gig for example and create 2 virtual drives from that e.g. 4 gig for swap and 16 gig for the root drive and when resizing to 40 gig for example it would resize the total capacity and then I can resize each drive individually. Linode for example gets it 100% right. You could probably default to what you're doing now but should allow power users to customise it. Also I would like to be able to boot into rescue CD and install the OS from there as thats how I always install my Gentoo VM's. Also booting a custom kernel is the most important thing in my opinion and I'm assuming thats something DO is working on already.

Thanks for comments Alfred all of those items are in the works and in various stages of progress so you'll see certain of those features being rolled out in the coming months.

We're going to be rolling out boot from ISO first as a recovery tool and then proceed with this.
The boot from ISO should be available in the next 1-2 weeks.
