Hi everyone,
Good news! Today we are launching DigitalOcean's Block Storage! The wait is over, you can use it now on NYC1 and SFO2, more regions will come online soon.
You can read more about it on our blog:
https://www.digitalocean.com/company/blog/block-storage-more-space-to-scale/
Or visit the product page:

We are marking this topic as done but we are still listening to you. Thanks a lot for all the support and feedback, we really appreciate it.

We do not have anything yet planned that would allow customers to increase disk-space independent of RAM and CPU.
We are discussing several options but have not yet finalized on one that we will start developing.

an EBS like solution would be awesome.

We are most likely going to avoid an EBS solution because there are inherent issues with it.
First is the management of an extremely large and growing SAN environment which usually takes up a large amount of resources in both hardware and management time.
The second is that with all shared environments performance can degrade rapidly depending on how customers are utilizing the diskspace, spefically running processes like databases becomes very inefficeint, so while it provides flexibility in terms of disk storage it's at a huge cost to performance.
We are looking into various ways to provide additional storage outside of the virtual server to customers that could be used for content storage.
Thanks.

Any thoughts on the extra diskspace that someone might not need? For example when I upgrade my plan, I'm given whole lot of storage that I actually do not need. I just need the upgraded ram and processing power.

I would be interested in more space, be it an EBS like solution or anything else. I want cheap but HUGE data storage solution! ;)

You have any ETA on that?

I need more disk space too.
VPS disk size or external nas storage sold separately would be great.
Nas solution could be even mounted by different vps (of same owner) to open new usage scenarios.
I check daily to see if this request change status from "planned" to "started", there is an ETA?

We've been doing a lot of behind the scenes hardware work, including the large core network maintenance in our AMS region and now we are finishing up specing out a large update to the physical hypervisors which we will be rolling out in the next 1-3 weeks.
After that we are looking to a make a HUGE announcement around the new year in regards to that.
After that the next hardware issue that we will be looking into is the storage question and how we can begin provisioning that for customers.
We will most likely follow our standard roll-out for new features which is to launch it in a beta capacity, which means we don't recommend running it for production systems (ie: untrusted). And then collecting data on usage as well as general feedback so that we can either retool, rebuild, or finalize and launch it as a full service.

Great news. Yours is the best and most effective price/benefits service around. Waiting for the huge announcement.
Thank you,
Stefano

I'd be happy to beta test anything for you :) glad to hear it's coming soon! DO is awesome :)

We are still working on extra diskspace but we will be making a big announcement in early January that we think will be very well received by our customers.
Stay tuned =]

Hey Moisey,
I'd love to hear more about the disk space offering - care to shed some light in private?
The disk space limitation is the only reason we've yet to move clients over. If we factor in nothing more than disk, that's $1 per 1GB across all plans 1GB RAM and higher, so I'd love to hear more.

We are still collecting use cases from customers to understand how they want to interact with the disk, how they prefer to store and retrieve files and what their usage is.
So please feel free to shoot me an email to discuss moisey [at] DO

Responded =]
We've been making some large infrastructure changes which we are announcing on January 14th.
Storage will be the next hardware infrastructure project we tackle so we hope to move this from planning to started very shortly.

Looking forward to more hdd space, need it for a large project i'm working on :)

Increasing disk space would be very useful. I can accept moving up the packages with cpu and RAM but disk space is really a constrainer, i don't see it being practical when i need 1.6TB.

As soon as you guys have an option for aditional storage (it doesn't have to be ssd) in the form of maybe SAN or NAS... I am on board!!!

Can we get an update on this? Any thoughts towards large storage options +1TB? Your service would then also be competitive with cloud storage solutions if you priced it right.

Unfortunately fell a bit behind on this while working on growth but its definitely a very large item on our agenda and we hope to start updating on its progress shortly.
