Any update or is it still planned.
If we could at least have support for index.html that would be great. We really need the option to occasionally add landing pages to our object storage.
I believe this is important when the you are working with a single branch (master only) strategy and would like to achieve version control and CI/CD to automate deployment of your websites to different environments. I am not very sure if this is achievable with the DO App Platform without creating additional branches for each of the environment. Besides, I am not certain on how can I control the caching properties of the different files (e.g. configurations) on my website, which is quite important for a three-tier web app that runs on different environment.
I can host my static website on DO K8S, but I'd love to leverage on the CDN network and host my website on a static bucket like DO Spaces for better performance and less trouble around resources allocation in my K8S cluster (probably at a lower cost as well). And I don't mind to pay extra to be able to host a static site from DO Spaces for the different benefits that a CDN bring.
Ultimately, what I want to achieve is to leverage on the ArgoCD hosted in DO K8S to deploy a static website to DO Spaces with a K8S job. Given a static website is enabled in the DO Spaces, the K8S job will 1) upload the website files from a container image to the DO Spaces and 2) Update cache control for some files that should not be cached (e.g. index.html, config.js, version.json, etc.). Sadly, this is something that I can achieve with MS Azure but not in DO.
I want use this feature at DO instead of Amazon
What is the different use case that a static (completely free) DO app cannot solve?
Please is there any update on this?
In case you need another use case, I want to make a simple static website that hosts some large files for offline use in a mobile app. The files can be larger than 1 GB so they're not a great fit for a Github repo. I guess I could use LFS, but Spaces seemed simpler... until I realized I couldn't host a site on spaces like that. FWIW, I'm also interested in hosting the files on Spaces with a custom domain, not a subdomain, e.g. xyz.com and not static.xyz.com, and I'm not seeing a way to do that right now.
DO Apps are not replacement for Spaces, it is completely different service for different use-cases.
you can host static sites using DO Apps
This would be a much appreciated improvement to digitalocean spaces.
It is really surprising and quite disappointing to learn the spaces feature does not work like S3 and other object storage services in this regard. With my website uploaded I can browse to index.html and see my site, but that obviously is insufficient for real users. I would have thought this was a really basic use case and it seems the functionality is so close. Just need something to answer the phone at the root. I don't want to run another server just to proxy those requests. That defeats the whole point. I will be watching for updates, but for now need to go with a different solution :(..........
@DigitalOcean will this feature realeased befor 2021? If you don't plan to release it please change the planned status, we will search for other solutions from your competitors.
don't promise anything that you cannot keep.
Would be great for hosting reactjs public builds
Any update on this? I'd really like to have everything in one place as I move away from AWS, but have had to go with Netlify for now for my static hosting because this is still unsupported.
Have you guys given up on this idea?
Looking forward to this one... Right now users get an ugly XML view, so being able to give them something else as a start page would be awesome.
Any update on this? This is very impactful for various reasons listed above.
This is something I'd like to see, maybe as a special subclass of CDN (some kind of "static hosting CDN") that supports both a root domain and a subdomain.
Anyone has any guide hosting SPA on digital ocean with CDN enabled?
You won't be notified about changes to this idea.
