Development and systems Q&A

Automatic weekly backups seem a bit far between, daily backups would be better. Especially for droplets holding data.
Please make it an option: daily or weekly backups. Perhaps we could even have choices for the retention policy too.
Any updates on this? It would be really useful to have this feature
Voted! Please vote up this idea if you want better and fairer pricing for your automatic backups! Here: https://ideas.digitalocean.com/ideas/BACK-I-3
We really need this feature. When do you plan to release this? We are already in Q2 and it would be great to have an update
100 votes , i have many clients
Easy to do via the api and you can control when they are done
Daily backups are needed as part of a disaster recovery, when data on the droplets is very important.
I don't disagree that daily backups should be available (for a raised price, obviously), but in critical situations like that, you probably ought to have your own backup scripts running things.
A daily snapshot option would be much more beneficial, even though I have Crashplan backing up my critical data. Crashplan can't restore an entire server from nothing (it needs a base OS installed and configured) therefore in a disaster scenario, recovering to the previous daily snapshot would be a good starting point, then I could use Crashplan to bring it up-to-date.
Drawing comparisons to Linode - they charge 25% of the server price for daily backups and keep 4 slots - the previous daily backup, a 2-7 day old backup, and an 8-14 day old backup. The last slot is a manual backup you can do at any time.
DO reportedly keep 4 weekly backups so if they offered a daily service with 4 slots (last 2 successful daily, last successful weekly, last successful monthly), I don't see this could be any more costly than it is now.
I love every part of DO... except no daily backup, which is why I keep using Linode.
Definitely agree that at least one backup should be daily, and the rest ones weekly. Similar to Linode's model. That would make much more sense.
It would be even better if you could set the times when the backups are made yourself. Then you could choose how many you'd like to use for daily and weekly backup, and during what hours they're made (and what day, in case of weekly) .
I also think that a daily backup is useful. Maybe keep the last 5 days and 3 weekly backups.
Definitely interested. We have our scripts doing nightly and then copying to spaces. Nice to have it happen automatically.
I would be very interested in daily backups rather than weekly. We can't really afford to lose a week of data. A day at least is more manageable.
+3 votes added, would pay extra for this. FYI GoDaddy includes 7 daily backups for websites residing on their Deluxe Linux Hosting package - although Digital Ocean is obviously far superior to shared hosting.
Also, it would be great if you could set retention - i.e. overwrite backups after a certain number of days, paying more for increased retention.
3 Votes! + please allow (daily) backups block storage volumes as well.
Many clients ask us about daily backups
weekly backups is for lower importance projects!
Once I launch my SaaS (websitewatchdog.app) I'll be using https://snapshooter.io/ for managing my backups as i'll be needing finer grained control.
