MariaDB managed database
Aldo
It's been 5 years. Any update if it's in their plan?

A big part of my application is online ALTER TABLE statements. MariaDB is orders of magnitude faster than MySQL for this. Testing with MySQL 8 this was unusable. Therefore I cannot use a managed db service with DO until MariaDB is supported.

Particularly as mysql 8 is becoming less and less compatible with mariadb and slowing their roll out of changes to open source, the need for MariaDB support is now greater than ever.
I'm very much hoping this comes soon!

I agree that Mariadb is a very desirable option. As an oracle user of many years, their stuff is ok, and if I wanted a closed source db I would use Oracle, not mySql. I'm a new DO customer, and I'm looking for ways to implement a Mariadb cluster, but apart from doing it all myself (in which case Hetzner would be more price performant), falling back to mySql again seems very retrograde - like going back to Windows after years of using Linux.

I've seen questions about this since 2020, seems odd that it's even with an upvote like the current one still isn't on the roadmap :(

Highly recommended, probably many waiting for this option. I'll certainly sign up when this becomes available.

Maybe a partnership with mariadb.com? They offer SKYSQL on aws and gcp so why not also offer DO option?
