App Platform -- Static IP
complete
Matthew Walden
We should be able to securely whitelist our infrastructure to access external resources, without apps being able to be given static IP addresses we can not use the service without opening our infrastructure to security problems.

Hi, This is Bikram (Product manager for App Platform). I wanted to let you know that we are transitioning this feature (dedicated ip) from closed beta to EA, and it should be available by end of this month (April).
Prakash Lakhara
Hi, this is must needed feature. My reason is we use a firewall due to some security reasons where the ip whitelisting is necessary and due to this reason the app service is useless for me.
This is a basic feature need that digital ocean should provide.
The paid ip for 25$ is too much costly. I would prefer launching 4 t2.micro ec2 instances instead of that where i will get static ips as well as more processing power rather than the digital ocean app service.

Thank you so much for the amazing feedback! Based on that feedback, we were able to prioritize and release Static IPs for App Platform. You can read more on our blog announcement: https://www.digitalocean.com/blog/implementing-the-dedicated-egress-feature-on-app-platform For information on how to get started, check out our documentation: https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/app-platform/how-to/add-dedicated-ip/ If you need any help, please teach out to our support team: https://cloudsupport.digitalocean.com/s/ Again, thank you for taking time out of your day to share this feedback!

Awesome! Can you already share what it looks like for the dashboard?
Will it be under Networking > Reserved IPs but instead of droplets now also apps including or something?
B
Bikram Gupta
flexwebapp It is an app platform specific configuration, and will be under app platform settings page for your specific app.

Bikram Gupta will this be available for apps under any plan - or only "dedicated" Pro plans (75+ USD/month)?
flexwebapp
Bikram Gupta
Thanks
flexwebapp
Mitch Ryan only for PRO plans, that would be Silly, Just add it in both and charge a few dollars extra for the IP imo
M
Mitch Ryan
flexwebapp respectfully, I'd prefer if Bikram could answer, thanks.
flexwebapp
Mitch Ryan Of course
But since the feature is available now and Bikram did not have time to answer here is the info you are looking for:
Under your app settings, you can now assign a Dedicated Egress IP Address. It doesn't matter what plan you are on.
For $25.00/month establish a secure connection between your app and non-DigitalOcean systems using Dedicated Egress IPs. Your app will be assigned 2 Dedicated Egress IP addresses to ensure high availability. You can release the IPs at any time.

flexwebapp good stuff, thanks for update. Price for this seems quite steep in comparison to droplet prices or reserved(floating) IP prices, thats 12.5 USD/mo per IP. It would be somewhat more affordable if you were allowing to select 1 or 2 dedicated IP addresses. Apart from that its very good, gonna use it after scaling my product a bit more.
flexwebapp
Robertas I agree
B
Bikram Gupta
flexwebapp Robertas The reason for the pricing is that we manage 2 droplets under the hood and configure the egress networking for your app. The egress routing is dedicated for your app. A technical blog on this will be published soon. We had to design it to scale for larger apps.

Bikram Gupta thanks for clarification, then it makes sense. I appreciate being transparent <3

Bikram Gupta I am planning to migrate to the App Platform and would like to reassign my current reserved IPs to the App Platform. If there are droplets under the hood this process should be possible. Right?

Tarrek (Product Manager) any updates? On September 12 2023 you said "Our team is currently working on this feature; we will be able to provide additional updates on an availability timeline in the next few months!"
Not being able to whitelist a static IP is really, really inconvenient
Lokko
How in the world was this not implemented from the start? How is this taking so long?

deepmatter
Tarrek is worthless - they aren't going to implement it or would have by now; it's literally the biggest issue on the App Platform board by like 1000%+. It's impossible to secure apps with DO so just move away from DO if you are building anything serious with apps.
Connor Postma
How has this essential feature still not been implemented?
Devendra Rane
IP whitelisting is one of the core requirements if you are working with any enterprise, particularly in fintech. So without this feature, it will be very difficult to integrate with enterprises.

@ Tarrek (Product Manager) we urgently need this. Please advise on ETA
SuperWayneBruce
hi, what is the update? IP whitelisting for apps is a must for me, we need something to be able to whitelist specific ip for our apps
