Disappointed to see the k8s dashboard deprecation

I just saw the email regarding the built in kubernetes dashboard deprecation. This is incredibly disappointing. I chose to use DO because of the guarantees of simplicity and assistance that your web UI and service provide such as built-in web-based tools that go above and beyond. When I use DO, I trust that your service is just going to work and be easy when I need to go in and make changes, add services, or debug.
Dashboards for databases and even k8s are a huge part of that.
Setting it up on my own is a pain.
With that in mind: it is incredibly sad to see the k8s dashboard go away. For many users, having a convenience (even if rare) of the dashboard already working is a big deal. Especially for people that aren't k8s experts, or find that even getting their own dash installed is a headache.
I really wish that DO reconsiders this, and that they understand that having a built-in tool to make k8s easier is exactly the type of thing that differentiates DO from other cloud providers (!).
Just because the dashboard is rarely used doesn't mean it isn't immensely valued when needed.
Maybe you can do a better job advertising that it exists -- or maybe you can survey people and ask them: "Even if you didn't know it existed, are you happy that the k8s dash exists? If you had a production incident and you were on the run with limited tools at your disposal to debug quickly from your browser, would the k8s dash be helpful?"
In my case I've used it rarely. But when I did, it was a godsend. Please don't mistake rare usage from the value it provides WHEN it is needed.
Thank you for the consideration- I hope to see you reverse this decision.

This feature is sorely missed. Trying to get up and running with the new "1 click" dashboard app and it's a nightmare.
Of course K8s official documentation on setting up the required service account is super confusing and hand waves away certain things you need to do.
It would be a lot better if Digital Ocean provided more detailed instructions on setting up the service account so we can actually access the dashboard quickly rather than banging our heads against the keyboard.

I finally got port forwarding to work but I have no idea how to generate the bearer token to connect to the dashboard -- the old dashboard was awesome, I used it all the time, this new thing is awful.

Hi David,
I'm the Product Manager for DO Kubernetes. First, I want to extend my gratitude for taking the time to share your thoughtful feedback. It's crucial for us to understand the needs and concerns of our users. Your insights are invaluable in that regard.
I genuinely regret the inconvenience this change has caused you and understand how valuable the Kubernetes dashboard has been for you, especially in those critical moments.
The decision to deprecate the dashboard was not made lightly. We encountered challenges in managing the feature across multiple versions, and the latest version (3.0 alpha) still needs time to mature. However, I want to assure you that we are exploring ways to bring back this functionality in a user-friendly manner, such as a 1-click installation, in the foreseeable future.
In the interim, as mentioned in our announcement, the dashboard can be installed with a few steps on your own. This might not be the ideal solution, but I hope it serves as a temporary measure until we can reintroduce the built-in dashboard. If you come across any challenges or have questions during the setup process, please don't hesitate to reply or reach out to our support team. They are on standby to assist you.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding. I want to assure you that we will keep this feedback under consideration.
Warm regards,
Bikram Gupta

Martina Cantarella Can you please use the below command to port-forward and access the dashboard.
kubectl -n kubernetes-dashboard port-forward svc/kubernetes-dashboard-kong-proxy 8443:443
Then access the dashboard from the browser by visiting:
I hope this helps.
